About US

Mark Anawski is the Head Instructor of Brookings TaeKwonDo. He, along with his wife, Kelli Anawski have been co-owners of Brookings TaeKwonDo since 2011. Mr. Anawski is also the Primary Instructor and creator of K.N.O.W. Self-Awareness and Defense and has spent over 25 years in Law Enforcement and 40 years in Martial Arts. He is an internationally Certified Kukkiwon Master Instructor. He also has international and national certifications in Defensive Tactics where he has several certifications in different areas of Self-Defense. He is one of the States’ Defensive Tactics Instructors and is currently a Police Officer where he works Part-Time as one of the departments Training Officers. Mrs. Anawski is also an internationally Certified Kukkiwon Master and Self-Defense Instructor, and trains along with Mr. Anawski where they teach to area daycares and schools (grades K – College) and inform them regarding situational awareness, dangers of strangers, school bullying, anti-rape, and anti-abduction. They also host self-defense seminars for individuals, their families, and corporate businesses in the area. Classes and seminars are available throughout the year.

Brookings TaeKwonDo works tirelessly to develop students to their fullest potential. Owners Mark and Kelli Anawski have dedicated themselves to improving students as individuals and teaching them to deal with adversities in life, not just on the mat. “We’re entirely built to support you, allowing you a place to fall, and picking you right back up. We strive to stimulate personal growth for our students with honesty, integrity, social/charitable events, and demonstrating the Five Tenants of TaeKwonDo.”  Simultaneously, Mr. & Mrs. Anawski provides elite training as two internationally recognized Master Instructors. Their students who dedicate themselves through perseverance and training can achieve an International Kukkiwon Black Belt Certificate. Kickstart your journey on our mats and see what we can do together!

Our History

Brookings TaeKwonDo has grown organically through the community over the years. Mark Anawski stepped up and took over in 2011 and substantially grew Brookings TaeKwonDo alongside his wife Kelli, including moving to a larger training area in 2016 with student growth. Mark trained in martial arts since he was 6 years old before taking over as Master. He spent time in TaeKwonDo, Karate, and Boxing, earning a black belt at 12, trained kids as a college student in club/youth sports, and has spent nearly 25 years in law enforcement. In 2021, Mark transitioned to full-time instruction and works daily with Kelli to improve the lives of his students through the lessons of TaeKwonDo.
